Book Review: Eclipse

Okay, so this is the third book in the Twilight series and I must admit that so far it was the least impressive. Not that it wasn't entertaining, it was just not as intense as New Moon. However, it achieved its ultimate purpose of thickening the plot and carrying it forward, so it wasn't a total loss. I constantly find myself getting irritated at the main character, Bella, because she is very often a total nincompoop. But I have to remember (and begrudgingly admit to myself) that the reason she irritates me is because she reminds me of my 18 year old, naive, devastatingly-in-love, living-in-my-own-little-bubble self. I'm so very glad I've grown up.

In any event, here's my judgment on the book:

Plot: gotta knock this one down to a 3. Still good, but not fabulous.
Characters: still a 4, although I am hopeful Bella will start to grow up a bit.
Writing: sadly, still a 3. Irritatingly mediocre. Irritating because if only I had the idea, I think it would have been better written (just keeping it real, yo).

Thus, the overall score for Eclipse is a 3.33.

Next up (and finally, I might add) is the last book: Breaking Dawn. I will be speeding through this one so that I can have my life back and start reading adult books again. Sheesh.

I commend you for getting through it. I couldn't. Bella was so immature and dramatic I couldn't stomach it. Oh, well. I guess I am in the minority.

I agree with you. And I think that's why it's a huge hit with the kiddos. They can very much relate to her and I just can't anymore. Thank God! But it takes a lot for me to not finish a book and I'm hoping that the last book makes up for the mediocrity of this one.

I totally agree...I liked New Moon a lot more than this book. I had a hard time getting through it, but it is worth it and necessary to get through this one to understand the last one. Love your book montage - isn't The Shack the best?! Glad I came across your blog!

Thanks for stopping by, OceanDreams! I'm glad to hear that Eclipse was worth the read. I'm looking forward to finishing the series! The Shack was one of the most inspirational books I've ever read. If you liked it, you really need to read Same Kind of Different As Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore. A true story that will completely wow you!

I love your book reviews of Twilight -- very entertaining. I totally know what you mean about getting annoyed with book characters. I can't count the number of books (esp. "chic lit") that I've put down because I got fed up and couldn't let go of the nagging feeling that there was NO WAY anyone with half a brain would do this/that.
